We want to build a community of families who feel confident to support their children.
Occupational therapy in early intervention
Occupational therapy is about supporting people to engage in their desired daily tasks, to the best of their ability. For children, that is playing and learning, which are the cornerstones for their development. With this in mind, early intervention occupational therapy aims to promote the foundational needs of a child to thrive in their environments, increasing their opportunities for participation and development.
The Building Blocks approach
Stemming from a passion to support children and families in the most effective way possible, in combination with the best practice principles in early intervention, BBT moves past a child sitting with a therapist for an hour each fortnight and recognises the importance of intervention carrying over to a child’s home, school and community. With a core a value being parent empowerment and knowledge, parent coaching and capacity building is an essential aspect to our practice, because outside of the appointments, children spend all of their time with their parents or caregivers. BBT maintains the perspective that no child is “broken” and “needs to be fixed”, rather the world around them is the barrier to their lives, and it is our role to help children and families overcome these barriers.
Relationships - Routines - Repetition
Evidence for best-practice in early intervention identifies services in natural environments as a key factor, and that some children find it challenging to transfer skills they learn in one place and apply it somewhere else.
Children’s lives happen at home, school and in the community, so that is where we will meet you. JMOT is a completely-mobile service that meets you in the places that are important to you. Based in the South Brisbane, we travel across Brisbane, Logan and northern Gold Coast areas.
